Durant Volunteer Fire Department proudly protects 2,500 people living in an area of 88 square miles.  We operate out of one station that protects a primarily rural area.  Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status only.

We would like to thank Scot Spengler on his recent retirement from the fire department after 25 years of dedicated service. Scott had served as training officer and 1st assistant chief for the past several years and was an excellent pump operator. We wish him the best of luck with his future endeavors.

Job well done by all today from Durant, Wilton, and Muscatine Fire Department's. Unfortunately the home is a total loss, but there were no civilian or firefighter injuries to report.

We would like to thank everyone who took time out of their day today to show the students at DHS what can happen when you drink and drive. Would like to especially thank all of the first responders from Durant Ambulance Service, Durant Police Department, Med-Force, Bentley Funeral Homes, Durant firefighters: Chief Shawn Jepson, assistant chief Ben Jepson, Dan Sterner, Adam Sterner, Matt Hendrych, Michael Stigers, Nate Paxston, and Jared Semsch. Also like to thank the Durant High School, especially Mr. Neumann for coordinating everything on there end. We hope that all the students took something away from today's scenario and have a happy and safe prom this weekend.

The DVFD will be participating in the state wide tornado drill today at 10:15 a.m. at that time all tornado sirens in the state will blow for 3 minutes. This year the alert for the drill will be broadcast via weather radios. Also starting in April through the end of summer we will be testing the tornado sirens in Durant on the first Tuesday of the month at 10:00 a.m. they will blow for 3 minutes.

We would like to thank everyone today for the help on a tough extrication call on I-80 especially the Walcott Fire Department and Durant Ambulance on our call and the Wilton Fire Department and Bennett Ambulance on another extrication call down the road from ours. We also greatly appreciate the help from all the different agencies involved today. Cedar County Dispatchers, Med-force 1 & 2, Life flight, ISP, Cedar County Sheriff's, Scott County Sheriff's, and Tipton Ambulance. Thank you all for the help!
